crumbs.. it seems ages since I've had a fresh compilation to listen to. I wonder if, like london buses, three will come around the corner at once? no, not likely.. anyway, here's my verdict on Frank's latest..
- classic, let's pogo! where did I put my safety pins and braces?
- classic, let's hit the rocket-powered, monkey-piloted sled and tear across the alkali flats! love it.
- classic, let's jump around with socks on our bits! then again, perhaps not; top tune though.
- clas.. hold on, it's gone all warbly-rock. believe it or not this reminds of sitting in a rock pub in Prague; unlike there though I've not got several Gambrinus to stave off the side-effects of the bad perms.
- classic, let's all chant along with the local DJ. top mellow groove, excellent.
- cla.. I haven't the foggiest who this is.. but I love it.
- classic, let's hold up the lighters. I had this on 7", it was a b-side and I only played the flip one time. unfortunately for me the stereo was in the lounge and my mum was there so, despite the mellow tune and right-on lyrics, the repeated use of fudge in the lyrics ensured it never got played again.
- classic, let's hope the arctic monkeys cover this. another track I had (or possibly still have) on 7" vinyl, my brother bought the album if memory serves, though this is the track that everyone remembers. he's still going too, he was at the wedgewood rooms last year.
- classic, let's remember when they were mellow. I love this, love their first album; the second was OK but I'm having a real time getting into the latest one. ho hum.
- classic, let's chill out and let the sofa swallow us whole. very mellow, very mellow indeed.
- classic, let's sell out to The Man then regain our ideals and go it alone. I think this is the last track of theirs that I really rated, the album after just didn't do it for me. if you want a treat you should check out the earlier stuff
- clas.. hold on, what the bobbins is this?! it's quite mellow, somewhere between a medieval dirge and something from a spaghetti western.
- classic, let's fire up the corvette and cruise along the freeway. it's rock, it's blues, it's really rather good (they're damn fine live too).
- classic, let's swing the microphone around our heads. excellent excellent excellent. let us rock.
- classic, let's get nutted and pogo some more. genius.
so, a fine old mix of classics and weirdness here, some I liked, some I loved, a couple I just gave a bit of a shrug to and then moved on. I think the sixth track is my favourite though (as I'd not heard it before).
