A new message from the Wedgeweb (that's the Wedgewood Rooms sort-of Yahoo group type thing) just popped into my Hotmail inbox and I thought I'd highlight it here.
Hackpen Records (no, me either), an Andover-based record company (no, really), has scoured its pile of demos received and put them to a very good cause.
For a crisp fiver you'll soon be able to buy a 13 track CD full of up-and-coming acts, some from the Pompey and scumton areas, with the proceeds going to those awfully nice people at Amnesty International.
Anyway, here's some blurb..
The Nyquist Theory is a compilation album that emerged from the talent that lay in our offices in the form of demos and samplers sent to us in recent times. Resources are limited however that didn't seem a reason for not exposing the bands and artists to a wider audience whilst maybe, with the help of the bands raising some money for Amnesty International.
The bands have given us their recordings and songs royalty free; we have given our time and resources and hopefully everyone will benfit from the exposure and money we raise for AI.
Nyquist Theorem is an apt title - it is the mathematical expression of sample theory. This album represents a sample of some of the best music happening across our nation today from Scotland to the deep South. We are absolutely delighted with the sound and how well the tracks mesh together. We hope you enjoy what you hear.
A full-tracklisting and more information on the bands featured on the CD can be found here. The CD can be purchased from the Hackpen shop or at the Wedgewood Rooms. It's released on May 16th.
