If, like me, you only buy Q when there's a decent coverdisk stuck to the front then, also like me, you'll probably not have bought a copy in awhile. That changes this month, the issue in shops at the moment features a cracking CD featuring 80's covers by, as Q puts it, "essential artists". The track-listing is as follows: 01 Franz Ferdinand - What You Waiting For (Gwen Stefani) 02 Sugababes - I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys) 03 The Flaming Lips - Can't Get you Out of My Head (Kylie) 04 Corrine Bailey Rae - Venus as a Boy (Björk) 05 Elbow - August & September (The The) 06 Richard Hawley - Some Candy Talking (Jesus & Mary Chain) 07 Editors - Orange Crush (R.E.M.) 08 Delays - The Sun Always Shines on TV (Aha) 09 Jack Johnson - 3 Is The Magic Number (De La Soul) 10 Paul Anka - Wonderwall (Oasis) 11 Nick Cave - Disco 2000 (Pulp) 12 Jamie Cullum - Lover You Should've come Over (Jeff Buckley) 13 The Magic Numbers - There Is a Light That Never Goes Out (The Smiths) 14 Travis - Baby One More Time (Britney Spears) Right, it's off to WHSmiths I go then..

August's Q (it's the one with Madge on the cover) comes with a CD featuring "15 exclusive new covers", all 80's tracks rendered by contemporary artists. The track-listing is as follows: 01 Orson - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) (Hall & Oates) 02 The Futureheads - Let's Dance (David Bowie) 03 boykillboy - It's Different For Girls (Joe Jackson) 04 Neal Casal - Wishing Well (Terence Trent-D'Arby) 05 Lorraine - Heaven (The Psychedelic Furs) 06 Cord - Spirits In The Material World (The Police) 07 The Boy Least Likely To - Faith (George Michael) 08 Teddy Thompson - Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House) 09 Catherine Feeny - I'm On Fire (Bruce Springsteen) 10 Kelley Stoltz - Heaven Up Here (Echo & The Bunnymen) 11 Camera Obscura - Modern Girl (Sheena Easton) 12 Clayhill - Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want (The Smiths) 13 Katie Melua - Just Like Heaven (The Cure) 14 Placebo - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush) 15 Elf Power - Upside Down (The Jesus and Mary Chain) Only 9 of the tracks are really 'exclusive' though, the rest are b-sides or album fillers. It's a bit hit and miss, The Futureheads tune is a bit disappointing but Teddy Thompson's take on Crowded House is better than I'd expected (ahem). The Boy Least Likely To, Neal Casal, boykillboy and Camera Obscura tracks are all worth a listen; for some reason the Orson cover annoyed me more than the Katie Melua one, bizarre.
