and so Stu's second outing drops onto my desk.. kudos for the "cover" now, let's listen and cogitate..

01 eeh, them were the days [sips his coca-cola] long gone now though.. I think he's kissed his knighthood goodbye.

02 top stuff, I like the rest of the album very much (though this isn't my favourite track on it). damn good live too.

03 it's Stevie Wonder? no? Stevie Wonder Junior? no? someone who's ever so slightly related to Stevie Wonder in some way? or lives next door to them? h'mm..

04 there's been three tracks on this CD that I keep coming back and replaying.. this is the first of them. love it. they should release this as a single..

05 this sounds a heck of a lot like something The Avalanches would do (wonder what ever happened to them anyway) but it isn't them. I think the jury is still out whether I like it or just appreciate its cleverness.

06 am liking a lot the new CD, it's more of the same though slightly different; though already the curse of being played to death has struck, I heard this as incidental music on TV twice in the last week!

07 starts off OK.. then quickly hits a rut which it never seems to get out of. man does this go on. and on and on and on. and on. and on. I don't know about being light years away, it's bloody light years long!

08 they name-check the Oompah-Loompahs, word.

09 see, if this fella sounded like the guy on track 3 I think he'd finally be happy

10 I've not heard this in ages.. absolute class.

11 and this is the 2nd track I keep coming back too. what\who the hell is it? it's mad, it's foreign, it's quality. who the hell is it?

12 I really will have to get around to buying this album.

13 I never really liked this lot before, didn't go much on the first album. the single of the new CD was good, this is even better.

14 you just couldn't wait until the 22nd could you? tsk tsk. this does sound damn good though.

15 see, fat blokes DO rock.. genius.. and it's not about cheese.

16 now why haven't Top Gear picked this as one of their Driving Anthems?

17 and this is the third track I keep coming back to, it's the catchy chorus, fantastic.

19 and finishing up on a choice bit of classic pop rock.. groovy.


to sum up.. it truly is still uneven; a good compo, a mixed bag of old, new and "what the fudge?". big thumbs up slightly tempered by the pain of track 7 (now there's 7 minutes of my life I'm not going to get back)

2... good stuff, from probably my fave album of last year.
3... nah...
4... sounds a bit gay... yeah, really really gay.
5... its not bad, but all i can picture is the ad. Nice car though. As Dave said, clever rather than particularly likeable.
6... yeah, i like it, sounds a bit like BT, which is no bad thing.
7... excrement as fudge, sounds like its from a gay sci-fi film.
8... s'ok.
9... as is this i suppose, they're ok in small doses.
10... an ok song from a patchy album, was gonna put one of theirs on my next cd, if i do one.
11... er... nah...
12... good album, wouldn't have said this was a highlight from it though.
13... cannot stand these blokes, if you're gonna have some scousers on here, at least make it the Zutons.
14... another band i've never gotten into, this doesn't change that.
15... isn't this another advert song? Possibly the most over-rated band ever... dull.

19... heard this on Virgin radio the other day, so no need to listen to again right now.

I have to say i'm finding these cd's a bit disappointing these days... all i'm really after off them is at least one track that makes me go "oooh, i fancy finding out a bit more about these guys", but so far that's been a rarity... then again maybe i'm just a fussy fecker.

02. Echo and the bunnymen tones going on here, very nice, probably one of them there trendy bands.
03. oh dear gods, bloody soul music stop it , stop it now. Not so much use of 'skip' as use of 12 bore shot gun.
04. bit of everything, just not much of it pleasant.
05. not that bloody advert surely. Oh, it is. Good grief. Can but hope it's the same length as the advert.........nope.
06. more rinky dink. very nice, if you like St Ettiene mixed with a Human League b side and thrown together in a tub of fox poo. Next.
07. sounds like early 80's disco nonsense.
08. not going to like this...........nope, third use of skip after 1:25. Must be mellowing.
09. ah thats better, oh, he had to go and start singing. Nice intro for 10 secs though.
10. cracking first line. best so far. Oh its them, good though.
11. catchy but irritating after a while. A little bit too long.
12. not bad, in fact i would push the boat out and say ....good.

Finally got round to reviewing.

Some of this I liked, some I wasn't sure of. Only one I disliked enough to swear under my breath. A bit more even than uneven was.

Super Furry Animals, if you ever get a chance to listen to two 70s prog rock outfits called Gentle Giant and Rare Bird you will see a lot of similarities.

I thought the doodling on the actual CD was, umm interesting. Must have took ages, and very worrying, in a 'kill Cleasau' type way.

And thats it really, more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
