For the few of us on here with the Last.FM plug-in there's a new gadget to tinker with, the AEP Calculator. AEP stands, apparently, for Anti-Exponential Profiles and is a measure of how diverse your musical tastes are. All you need to do is enter your Last.FM username in the space on the AEP Calculator website and click the button. There will then follow a short period of off-screen jiggery-pokery with your chart stats (it uses the top 50 artists in your profile) after which it'll spit out a number, usually below 5. If it returns greater than 4 you obviously have a very diverse taste in music, greater than 3 you have a fairly diverse taste in music, and so on. A 0 would most likely mean you listen to one artist obsessively, lower than that and, as it says on the site "you are probably a fake top fan". Mine is (currently) 3.09 (though I think I could boost that it if I listen to more nose flute and bulgarian hip-hop). Once your AEP is worked out you can add it to your Last.FM profile, show it off to your friends, that sort of thing. Well, it's something to do.
