there's a thread like this on pretty much every forum I've ever visited (regardless of whether it's about music, football or slightly dodgier things), the idea is that you list what you've been listening to lately (so of course it turns into either A) a big nostalgia trip or B) one big muso show-off session *koff* @ home Soulwax - Any Minute Now LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem The Wedding Present - Take Fountain Lou Barlow - EMOH Ed Harcourt - Strangers Snow Patrol - Final Straw @ work Doves - Some Cities (good) Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (bloody fantastic)

I've heard a few Bloc Party tracks... and been distinctly underwhelmed... hype over substance again?

nope, honest guv.. they're damn good (would I lie to you? well, possibly but that's beside the point).. that's only my opinion of course.. very 80's but it's not as obvious to pick out the influences as it is with the Killers though..

Hi all,
Just joined the forum on Dave's recommendation ;D
What have I been listening to this week? Well as usual with me, it's been tending towards German bands.....Rammstein, Empyrium (gorrrgeeeouuusss), along with Cradle of Filth and a bit of Stone Roses.
Have also been listening to a couple of tracks by The Bees (have literally just discovered them this morning courtesy of Soccer AM). Any thoughts on them?

The Bees? Are they the ones who do the Monkey, Chicken song? If so that's quite a good track, don't know nowt else about them though... aren't they fairly local, or am i thinking of someone else?

I think the tune is called Chicken Payback or summink. I really like it. Heard of them ages ago but only really caught snippets of their stuff. I may have to investigate further. Oh, they're from the Isle of Wight by the way. Here is a link to the Website with a full length video for Chicken Payback....it's quite bizarre ===> www.thebees.info/indexExpandNews.html

I have the first album which I loved and still like. Then I saw them at the wedgewood rooms for their new album and we ended up leaving early cause they were so self indulgent and boring quite frankly. The new stuff sounds to me like Chas and Dave.

No Marley though, ska yes, Marley NO NO. No, not Marley (who is still alive and well according to those wags at the BBC) but Tal Farlow. As you like Django you may well like Tal; I don't know much about him other than from a documentary I caught late one night on Channel 4, but I like what I've heard. I have the first album which I loved and still like. [....] The new stuff sounds to me like Chas and Dave. I must admit I didn't really recognise it as being the same band when I first heard the new album, especially as the first has that latin american feel whereas the second outdoes The La's for sixties-sound-a-likey-ness. It definitely grew on me though, probably as Stu had on in his car for months when it was released last year.
