NME.COM have dropped the bad (if inevitable) news that Top Of The Pops is to go the same way as Melody Maker and Smash Hits. After 42 years the BBC are putting the show out of its misery (though to be honest they probably should have killed it off awhile back before it got shunted over to BBC2). So, again with apologies to E.J. Thribb, 17½ (you'd think I'd know better after the last time).. In Memoriam Top Of The PopsSo. Farewell Then Top Of The Pops We will not forget Pan's People with the lovely Babs or Phil Collins with the can of paint on his piano. The Jocky Wilson Says mistake was my personal favourite. Be honest though it all went wrong when you moved to Sundays. And Richard Bacon upset the Magic Numbers. Shame. I blame Andi Peters.
