well, here goes..
track 1
ooh.. a nice intro to make the ears bleed, if it's cranked up enough. always reminds me of The Simpsons, people's glasses exploding, that sort of thing.
track 2
excellent, a cracking foot-stomper from the 70's to get things moving. I saw [the artist] in concert many years ago, a cracking live act who really got the crowd a-moving and a-grooving. like Yul Brynner, he's dead now. a shame.
track 3
hold on.. what's this? err.. oi, Shiva, NO! aha.. it's the call-centre wizard doing a class tribute from this comedy/musical genius (though I prefer his Kraftwerk excursion, but I'm like that).
track 4
bonkers. just plain bonkers. nice cover version, very silly indeed.
track 5
riiiiiiiiiight.. wasn't too sure about this. it reminds me a bit of 80's british soul, something that Omar might have done (given the dodgy male chickenneyesque rhyming slang lyric) . it also had a Keziah Jones feel to it, so I was a tad surprised when I google'd the lyric and found out who it is; I thought they were RAWK. colour me surprised, even if the end result is a bit Maroon5.
track 6
a brilliant one-hit wonder tune.. always brings back memories of hot summer days, cold beer in pub gardens, bumble-bees and heroin addicts
track 7
fantastic, absolutely fantastic.. [disappears into a wistful memory of seeing them gig at the Wedgewood Rooms, for reasons obvious to Craig when he gets the CD].
track 8
some years ago my brother visited a good friend of his who was from the particular city that this band is from. upon his return he thrust this lot's CD at me and told me to check it out as they'd be huge. I gave it a listen, liked only two tracks on it, and handed it back. I've never heard the end of it.
PS this is one of the two tracks I liked by the way.
track 9
and so we enter the part of the CD labelled RAWK. play this loud. mosh. try not to think about AC/DC.
track 10
if I was hurtling across the alkali flats in a monkey-driven rocket-powered sled this track would be on the stereo (as would pretty much everything else this lot have done).
track 11
are these still going? I keep hearing rumours of a new album, though I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. this is, arguably, the last good thing they did (but, I must admit, it goes on a bit and it veers toward being a bit ploddy).
track 12
not knowing who the hell this was I relied again on Google to help me out. strange but true, it tracked the band down via a lyric and there was a nice review on the same site which suggested elements of (wait for it) Hawkwind (!) in this tune. I don't know much Hawkwind, other than Silver Machine, but I know what I like. and I like this. a lot. now, where did I put that rocket-powered sled? it rawks and it's funky, good stuff.
track 13
class.. they're coming to Pompey on tour in a few months as well
track 14
what a way to end, this fits in neatly with the cover design *koff*
verdict
it gets the thumbs up from me.. a good start with a mix of old, new and odd.
total runtime = 52:59
